HOPI PORTRAITS

HOPI PORTRAITS I have been photographing the Hopi people for over 30 years. I made them carefully. When I visit the Hopi Villages I never, with a few exceptions, bring out my camera. There are signs on the roads as you approach the Villiages, “NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED” On a few rare occaisions I have beeninvited to make portraits and welcomed the opportunity. Then some of these portraits were made in my studio. This series of Portraits began over thirty years ago on black and white film, others were made with a digital camera. the most recent photos were made last year. John Running
