GRAND CANYON POLAROID SEPIAS
Photographs by John Running
John Running has been making photographs in the bottom of Grand Canyon for close to forty years. He started by documenting biological research occurring along the Colorado River. Then he began to row boats through the canyon, and became a Colorado River Guide. Sometime in the middle 90’s he began to make photographs with a vintage 4 x 5 press camera using a new Sepia Film made by Polaroid. The film was wonderful - sometimes it produced results with the same tones as the muddy Colorado River. Running worked with this film until it was “improved” and then discontinued.

In May of 2011 he rowed a raft through the canyon for his 71st time celebrating his age of Seventy one. Now he uses a digital camera.
